Welcome to “The Haven Resort”!

6th August 2022 - Welcome to “The Haven Resort”!

A recent acquisition (free) from Chris’s sister, Karen, this sun umbrella just fits in perfectly with the terrace. None of it was planned, none of it measured, however the rectangular nature of the umbrella, the dimensions and how it all works together is just sublime.

Desi is enjoying listening to a podcast here, in the shade! There will be the need for some additional support for the umbrella as when there is a breeze (more than just gentle one) the umbrella does move about a bit. The heat is so strong, it would not be possible to sit in this suntrap terrace without the umbrella, so we are very grateful for this gift.

Putting the whole thing into perspective, the next photo shows how the terrace, trellis, umbrella, and the rest of the “Haven” plot all work together. This is our preferred destination these days, and who can blame us?

Meanwhile, in the delightful sun, the herb box is really exploding. The Holy Basil is just awesome and we find ourselves adding it to our lunchtime sandwiches, wraps and just picking a few leaves to munch on! All very refreshing, this is on the list again for next year, or maybe it can over-winter for next year, we shall see. The Marjoram is also doing well, but we think that the Coriander and the Dill need to be planted in a bigger space because they will be used for sure.

The heat we have been having has brought on the peppers and the aubergines in the polytunnel. They are seemingly growing cm-s per day! The regular Basil in the green planter is working well in the polytunnel too.

In the corner of the polytunnel where the Table is, the Lemon / Orange trees are enjoying the temperature too, as are the Ashwagandha in the small pots.

Outside the polytunnel we have the courgettes. This is a picture of the second largest in the corner of the plot. You can see how the plants begin to trail along the ground, so we have just put some stakes in to help the plant grow upwards. We shall see how it goes. The courgette plants are producing well, it is amazing how quickly they grow. One day 5cm the next day 8cm, seemingly.

What a beautiful flower this Echinacea is. From an almost slug eaten / battered plant in May / June, we now have this lovely example right in front of our eyes. This is definitely a must for our extended flower plot next year!
