One side done!

8th October 2021, One side done!

The end is in sight now for the raised bed! Well, at least the first part of the raised bed… The underneath of the bed will be open to permit access to the earth worms and nature (we may look to supplement those in time, if there isn’t enough of a natural transfer).

Also notice the orange building support has been installed. This is an attempt to hold the plastic polythene in situ and prevent if from lifting up and flapping in the wind. This is of course held in place by nailing to the wood pallet which is under the soil. We are hoping this will prevent a repeat of the events earlier in the year, when the polytunnel almost left our plot in the horrendous winds.

It has been raining a lot and quite boggy down in the ditch. Plus the water filters down from the road into this area as a lot of soil has been removed and it is much lower than the road (around 1m or so).

With the front walk up here (although you can hardly see it) just the back / side walls to do and it’s pretty much finished. In the second picture you can see the front walk more clearly and the back wall will be attached to the 6 pillars now installed.

In the last picture there is the raised bed all complete with the exception of the soil being placed back in there. The back wall now fixed in place, the sides as well. Chris is sure other additions will be made as we tidy things up, but the hardest work is now complete.
