Project near completion, food, and allotment overview

9th October 2021, Project near completion, food, and allotment overview

Today marks a minor milestone, so why not have a BBQ, dig up a few carrots, and get out some previously prepared relish, then enjoy it all with home baked bread! Where else? At the “Haven” terrace of course!

Time still this summer / autumn to enjoy some fruits of our labours!

In the 4th picture, the raised bed that we have been working on, is now full with soil (or at least for a while, until the soil settles). There are going to be some finishing touches to this raised bed as we progress.

The raised bed around the terrace is turning into a really nice picture now. The flowers are fully out and all the colours and different greens makes it very pleasant to while away the time sat here.

Stepping back away from our ½ plot and looking across to how things are shaping up:

we’ve done well so far, but boy oh boy, there is so much more to do! At least we have somewhere to sit as we knock off jobs these days!

From even further away you can get a sense of the area that the allotment resides in. The road is just on the other side of the trellis; the fire is on the corner of our plot and the greenhouse closest is the boundary that marks the other corner. The greenhouse is not on our plot. Ours starts on the other side going towards the polytunnel.

Here we go, some chicken thighs nicely browning on our makeshift BBQ and when they are finished this is where we are taking them to the table to eat. Soon we will be turning our attention to addressing this area by the compost heaps, and the new raised bed but with the weather and season passing swiftly, along with the days getting shorter, there is a finite limit to what will be achievable this year. We’re going to do as much as is possible…
