Buzz (and other things): Part 2

8th April 2022, Things are starting to buzz on the allotment, and other stories!

Part2 : "What is this news?" I hear you say...

Well guess what? We are the proud owners of another ½ a plot… making a whole one in total!  This plot is a half like our first one, but instead of having a whole plot from the road going down all the way, we have two half plots parallel to the road, going down just half way.

We are very excited because we have definitely put in too many seeds and have too many plants to put out into the single half we had. We would still struggle to plant out potatoes ordinarily even with the extra space, and to be honest we might not get much of this plot available for cultivation this year, what with all the other things we are doing, let us see…

Anyway let us show you where we are starting with this second bit of land and then you can keep us accountable as things progress…

The first picture is the lower section where the previous tenant had the polytunnel. We have stripped everything from it (hence the green vegetable crates in Part 1) so that we could see the task ahead of us. We managed to harvest a few things while doing this which are going to prove useful!

The small bushes to the left on the picture are gooseberries, I have never had a good experience with those as a kid at my parents' house, so not really too excited about those, they are intermixed with raspberries and blackberries, so who knows, we will wait and see.

From the next picture it is easier to see the fruit bushes. There has been an attempt to train the bushes, but in recent years looks like things have gotten a tad unruly. There is plenty of rubbish here, and the attempt at digging the ground towards the end of last year looks like it has been of little benefit really… we are going to have to start again most likely.

The rest of the plot is pretty unkempt with rubbish, glass, and other stuff, all covered by weeds, couch grass, brambles, dock leaves, and stinging nettles… ahh a bit like the first plot!

We will be musing over how to arrange things on this new plot as time passes, but we are delighted to have the extra potential space now… onwards and upwards!
