Decorative Fencing (and Seedlings)

21st - 23rd April 2022, Decorative fencing and seedlings developing

Round the other side of the polytunnel, we’re starting to look at finishing the groundworks. This is where we get to segregate the vegetable patch from the terrace / grass / entertainment area. A long trench has been dug in which to sink the assembled fence, and this will be screwed together and attached at each end to the wooden beams surrounding the plot.

Once this is in, we can definitely finish off by laying the grass, sorting out the front of the polytunnel and we are then away.

There we go in the next 4 pictures each showing a different aspect to the attempted “decorative fence”. Notice the little planters which are essentially one use of pallet ends. These we will be using for some flowers to give us further colour on the terrace side of the fence.

We have almost completed levelling the path, on which we will be sowing grass seed very shortly. Now is absolutely the right time for sowing seed, as the ground is warming up. 60F is a good temperature for grass to establish itself and although we didn’t measure it, I think that we will be there or even above 60F now.

The last picture is the current status of the cold frame. All is proceeding well in there and the plants seem to love it. We have to watch the heat though as the polythene lid enables things to heat up pretty quick and pots do dry out if not careful.

We are quite pleased with progress thus far. As we finish off construction, we are looking forward to filling all the nooks and crannies with existing and new plants.
