Enjoying the fruits of our labour

6th September 2021, Enjoying the fruits of our labour

The sun is out, an Indian summer has descended, just as well really because the main summer was pretty much absent. So time to sit and enjoy an “al fresco” lunch, where else? On the terrace! Homemade bread and green tomato relish, fresh cucumber, tomato, lettuce from the “Haven” - what’s not to like?

The table cloth, chopping board, plates, cutlery, and other items all via a camping backpack rescued from Chris' mum and dad’s loft and now getting plenty of use down on "The Haven” - this is much better than imagined at the start of the allotment project.

Next picture shows a Butternut squash that must have been cross pollinated with a cucumber or something… It's exactly the same inside as the traditional brown / yellow version, but just green outside. We’ve put a glove on it just to give you some idea of the size. Probably enough for 4 meals here in this one fruit alone.

Here is a delightful orange flower adorning the raised flower bed. Had to capture the beauty here as the sun was shining and giving the flower this absolutely stunning translucent appearance.

The bench seat is not just for sitting, but stacking up the produce to take home too! Cabbage, Brussel tops, broccoli, runner beans, and kale, all things green this time. Really amazing to have your very own supermarket on tap, down the road. We’ve entered the harvest season now, so we’re looking forward to fresh vegetables in the months to come!
