12th February 2022, Erased to the ground and raised beds!
There is always something going on down at the allotment. Whether this was Arson, Revenge or something more subtle, we don’t know, but on the plot next-but-one to ours, the deluxe shed (2 rooms and a place to sit) has been torched! What we got to see was just the burnt out remains.
Allegedly the plot was to be given up anyway, but that story hasn't been corroborated. What we do know is that it has been given up, and a great opportunity for us to obtain some scavenged wood. Plenty of long scaffold type bits of wood, ideal for what is happening next!
Check out the next picture… on the agenda from last year was the idea to level the 3 main plots we have. The plot is actually on a hill and ideally we can use the paths to kind of create a “rice field” effect where each plot is level and is punctuated with a path and then a small wooden wall to go up / down to the next level. Growing on hills creates an imbalance in the watering, so we would like to improve this.
So grabbing all sorts of different wood we have harvested and resizing so that it is usable, we are starting to ring fence the plots to create more contained and level growing areas. In this square that has the fire we need to kind of build around it, so that we can manage the ash and flames away from the plants.
In the last picture, we have got control back onto the plot after the winter break and are very much looking forward to the 1st full season with land we can use from the get-go.
