A lot of pictures of boxes here, but we’re quite pleased with how it has turned out and the transformation.

A couple of coats of wood preserver and the white pine wood is looking quite nice. All the insulation and padding is now securely contained within the double walls too.

The floor inside the box is still just pallets with holes there are plans to seal this at some point and to have a kind of shelf so that we can increase the use of this box with a double layer. There is enough height to do that and seeds / seedlings don't grow that high.

The small drainpipe to collect the water is now installed.

The pathway delimited by the decking that we managed to scavenge from another abandoned allotment has come in useful, but it shows how tight things are with only half an allotment. The pathway to the side of the cold frame isn’t even wide enough for two shoes together. We are packing in as much as possible and we would like another half, but we are making the most of what we have got for sure.

Here it is, the cold frame, now almost fully functional with the top on too… We need to put a couple of blocks on the lid and a guide on the box, so that we can line things up when putting the lid back on.

In the next picture you can see how the water goes down the slightly inclined lid and then runs off the plastic at the far end and into the gutter, to be collected by the milk bottles…. Water being collected for house plants. This picture is providing the full picture of how the water collection works. We have bottles for the water and we need a door to enclose the whole thing.
