Painting and Preparing

10th March 2022, Painting and Preparing

Armed with a paint brush and a tin of wood preserver Desi is on a mission to try and protect all this wood which is being laid down on the allotment.

Two or three coats on the new two tier wall, now fully coated by the looks of it in the sun of the first picture, plus the new wall by the polytunnel entrance. The second picture is from the other side of the plot where more painting is going on. Pallets are going to be used for the top of this plot, to segregate the vegetables from the grass and terrace entertainment area. The third picture once again has a different / better view of the current painting task.

This particular plot is the repository for the pallets soon to be deployed. But for the moment this has allowed us to concentrate work-in-progress onto one area of the allotment, whilst we construct elsewhere.

A view of the front of the plot in the next picture. Work is continuing here as we construct the front facing road-side area. Tidying up the blue water pipe, digging as many of the weeds/Horseradish roots out, so that we can arrange some flowers and raised beds to plant sweet peas up against the fences here.

The Passiflora has not yet begun its 2022 growth, actually looking a bit sorry for itself and going a little brown… we hope that it comes good and starts recovering.

You can now see that 3 of the terrace surrounds have been built for this last plot. The complex part is now to join up the two sides with the 4th wall, however this is going to be a planter-and-pallet based wall… We also have to move a pile of mud and relocate the spare wood/pallets elsewhere so that we can work here.

Where the red (brick) corner wall of the terrace and the decking is, this strip of grass will be extended a bit and we will be sowing seeds probably in April, ready for a decent good quality lawn, hopefully. Some work to do first before we get around to that.

The bottom two plots are now dug, levelled and ready for planting. We are going to be putting the Brassicas in the plot closest in the last photo, and potatoes in the bottom section of the far plot. Going to be growing them upwards this year and hoping for less of the wire worm, and a more bountiful uneaten crop. We’ll see.
