And… we’re off!!

 3rd November 2021, And… we’re off!!

At first sight, with this picture, you might be forgiven for thinking nothing has happened, but upon more careful inspection you will notice that 3 posts have been affixed and a wall built on the pallet side. Hence you can see the black plastic which was nailed to the side of the pallet has all but disappeared.

Some of the wood prepared in the previous blogpost already put to good use here! In the next picture you can see that the decking boards have been terminated with a bit of wood too, which additionally provides some support for the upright pillar which forms part of this new structure.

Looking across the allotment and a useful line in the sand. We still have some beans cropping behind the polytunnel and kale, cabbage, and brussels to harvest.

Elsewhere the butternuts are looking a bit worse for wear as it looks like we may well have had the first frost already (but not too severe), so we will have to get those harvested now.

We’ve also been harvesting wood from abandoned allotments. One of the advantages of being at the allotment regularly is that when people move on, there is an opportunity to get a few bits of wood, nets, stakes, poles and other useful items. We have been advised this is advantageous to the landlords as opposed to clearing the sites.

It can be a bit disappointing to see the allotment “fade” during the autumn and winter, but it will all be back again in a few months when in March everything kicks off again! Plenty to construct and plan before then!
