Back of The Polytunnel: Work Gets Underway…

2nd April 2022, Back of The Polytunnel: Work Gets Underway…

Ever since the soil was dug out, the back of the polytunnel has been a resting repository for things that we never knew what to do with: stones, buckets, bits of wood, bottles, tubing, and even small pallets.

Here in the first picture is one end of it, the second picture - the other end, including a reclaimed wheelbarrow with a flat tyre. In fairness, the “flat tyre” is only evident when you are carrying something in the wheelbarrow. But yet again, that is when you need the tyre to be not flat!

The third picture highlights the issue above i.e. rubbish, and also the challenge with sorting this rear of the polytunnel as it is quite a difficult job. We have to tie together quite a few already existing structures: the raised bed around the other side of the polytunnel, the compost bins, the raised bed this side of the polytunnel, secure the polytunnel itself and build some kind of raised bed for this section… bearing in mind that the polytunnel started off on a slope and is higher on the one side that on the other, and that both raised beds were built independently. In doing this rear section it also means that we have to secure the rear frame of the polytunnel which means an internal / external wall, which then needs lining up inside with the other two walls from the raised beds… which means sorting out the inside of the polytunnel… it is no wonder that Chris basically kept finding other things to do rather than tackle this… but we have kind of run out of other big projects at this moment.

So now inside the polytunnel, remember I was just mentioning the internal walls? Well, where the larger outside bed is located, we have this setup (first picture below) and in the second picture is the other side, which we have now cleared up a bit, so we can get going.

We have still got a long way to go inside the polytunnel, but as the weather improves we can put stuff outside without the threat of it getting all wet.
