Construction and weed prevention

16th October 2021, Construction and weed prevention

Small steps as the new raised bed begins to take shape. The builders netting is in place ready to be pinned down, the polytunnel plastic now in place, we’re looking good.

As you can see in the next picture, the pallets are in place, supports for the walls inside the polytunnel can be seen through the opaque plastic, along with the wall (picture of that later on). Weather is good, so progress can be made.

In order to prepare the area properly for the upcoming side wall there is some digging towards the front of the polytunnel and while we are there the blue water pipe extension has been laid, although we will be needing it to go a bit further than that.

Another view of the second raised bed construction, from the other side this time. Still thinking about how to finish off the side walls... It is all the little bits that take the time to figure out; the walls etc. are pretty straight forward.

Seems like the mountain of soil is getting worse although. Some of this will be heading back to the raised bed once it is complete, but where the rest will go, no idea at the moment, and we still got more holes to dig yet!

The last picture is inside the polytunnel. The black plastic comes from outside, under the frame and then up the wall and over as you can see, then secured with the internal wall. This provides a secure area around the frame where no soil can exist and hopefully weed free too!
