7th March 2022, Groundworks continued
Today we started the terracing of the plot adjacent to the polytunnel entrance. You can see that there are a couple of beams of wood making up the retaining wall so that we can level off that top plot. There still remain a pile of wood, various black pots and a small mountain of soil there, so that all needs moving before any levelling can be tackled.
In the second picture, you can see that the step is now nearly finalised, as are the retaining beams defining the path. Desi has also levelled out the soil ready. Next step here is to lay down some cardboard and then the woodchip. All slowly coming together.
We pick the stones out of the soil when we dig and they are always useful. Here we have used them as one of the steps which provides great drainage too. The slab of concrete, which we harvested from another plot, provides the other step that you can see there. We can always find ways to reuse what appears to be just rubbish…
