Terraced Plots, And Terrorised Plants

6th March 2022, Terraced plots, and terrorised plants

Into Spring we go, and Desi, boots and jacket on, digging out and levelling up the “path to be”.

Having got to the plot after a week of other things, we noticed something strange about the “Purple Sprouting”, can you see (now) under the white netting?

Yep, the pigeons had pretty much torn apart the whole crop! Leaves everywhere and sorry looking plants with almost just stalks left! Safely under white netting now, we are hoping that they will make a recovery, it looks a bit “touch and go” to be honest.

Although we have dug up the majority of the Brassicas there are still a few hardy sprouts and Kale plants remaining… we are leaving them in for a bit later…

The weather has been pretty good today, although cold. We are getting a few of the left over jobs completed where we ran out of time from last year. But now we are also starting to organise our seeds ready for sowing. Time does creep up on you and before long potatoes will need to go in, and sweet peas, etc. The thing with Spring is that it creeps up on you well quickly and before you know it it's May already! Tomatoes should be going in soon and things like butternuts, courgettes and then cabbages etc.

Having broken down the lumpy soil (after a bit of dry weather) the soil is now looking quite good for planting this year. It certainly took us a fraction of the time that it took us last year, so looking forward to getting ahead of ourselves and not chasing to get crops in the ground all of a sudden!
