28th February 2022, Lots of groundworks to finish off this Winter period!
The work continues behind the polytunnel. Digging away the soil to move around the corner and level up the plot there.
What is happening here then behind the polytunnel?
Basically we have already created two raised beds to hold down the polytunnel on the sides, but the main dominant wind comes in the direction of that tower in the distance (by the trees) towards the polytunnel. This means the prevailing wind often pushes against the door towards the compost heaps… this means there is a tendency for the polytunnel to be pushed backwards and in the previous year that ended up with it being a bit bent and lopsided.
So the idea is to put some tall beams behind the polytunnel against the frame so as to support the polytunnel at the rear and prevent it from being pushed in this direction. That’s the plan, anyhow.
In the second picture you can see the construction we have completed thus far. All looks a bit sparse at the moment with just a few plants and then wood! The terrace area looking neat and tidy but very bare without any flowers.
We are not far off completing the bottom levelled terrace plots. The wood has been added by the leeks to finish off that pathway. Other bits of wood sourced to finish off the job.
The step and lower part of the pathway through the middle of the plots is now moving ahead nicely. We are going to dig this over, level it up, put down cardboard and wood chip to complete the path.
Around the back of the polytunnel again, from the other side. With the wind still being very strong, we are securing the polythene with big wooden beams (they will be later used in the construction) to stop things going anywhere, whilst the back is exposed.
