Hills, Holes, and Highlands

17th September 2021, Hills, Holes, and Highlands

Here is where the spill is now piling up and Desi is sifting through it, removing the biggest stones and taking out any couch grass, or bindweed that is found. This hill is where the potatoes were (still are on the far side) but we had to harvest them as we’ve nowhere else to put the soil at the moment.

We are using the pallet cut-offs as barriers to prevent the soil getting out of control. Looks like we'll be looking at a pile of soil for a while!

The hole is getting bigger. There has been a pile of soil here for quite a while, but not only has a hole got to be dug as you can see, all the additional soil that was there needed to be moved as well… so there is a lot to move about.

This area is not just for a raised bed and to hold the polytunnel down but additionally for a cold frame that will assist in the propagation and hardening up of the plants for planting out next year.

And after all the hard work, a chance to have something to eat, a bit of rest and a taste of the Highlands with a wee dram of malt whiskey… Well, it would be rude not too!
